Shoreline Takes Down Top Ranked Lower Columbia, 73-68

Shoreline, WA – The Dolphins entered today’s game following three tough, close losses to finish out the year. Needing a statement to start the new year, the Dolphins did not disappoint.

Offensive Struggles

Shoreline's offense struggled to start the year, going 0-7 from the field and committing 8 turnovers. After going scoreless for the first six minutes of the game, Lower Columbia jumped out to a 9-0 lead before guard Myles Damon broke the cold spell for Shoreline. The Dolphins’ offense continued to struggle as Lower Columbia took a commanding 23-10 lead with 8 minutes left in the first half.

Keshawn Lewis led the charge for Lower Columbia, scoring 12 points on 5-6 shooting while grabbing 4 rebounds. Amir Locus added two steals and went 2-3 from behind the arc off the bench in the first half.

Tough as Nails

Despite the difficult start, Shoreline fought their way back into the game. Timely steals by Myles Damon, Joel Amaro, Isaiah Little, and Maximus Holliman fueled a massive 22-7 run for Shoreline to end the first half with a 32-30 lead. It was an all-around team effort to spark the comeback. Daniel Wondie came off the bench and knocked down two three-pointers, while Derek Nordale and Maximus Holliman each contributed a three of their own off the bench to ignite the sputtering Dolphins’ offense. Joel Amaro also had two rejections to stifle the Red Devils’ offense.

First Half Conclusions

Shoreline’s defense fueled the momentum needed to shift the game, with six steals and two blocks. Lower Columbia ended the half shooting 41.4% from the field and 33% from three-point range. Shoreline finished the half shooting 48.3% from the field and 57% from beyond the arc.

A Devilish Sight

Lower Columbia’s Keshawn Lewis once again led the charge for the Red Devils, providing 16 of their 38 second-half points. He ended his night with 28 points on 10-17 shooting. However, the rest of the Red Devils struggled. Inefficient shooting marred their second half, as they shot 36% from the field and 29% from three.

Efficiency

The story of Shoreline’s second half was efficiency. They shot 16-28 (57%) from the field, including a three-pointer from Daniel Wondie. Sherrell McCullum led the way with 12 points on 6-7 shooting. High-flyer Joel Amaro added 9 points, including a massive dunk that fueled more momentum for the Dolphins. Troy Nickel knocked down four free throws to put the game away for Shoreline in the final moments.

Shoreline ends the pre-season at 4-7, looking to carry this momentum into their first conference game at Skagit Valley. Lower Columbia ends their pre-season at 13-2, hoping for a reset as they begin their first conference game against Centralia.
